Carl Gustaf Lundin

Carl Gustaf Lundin has joined Mission Blue as CEO and Managing Director after having served as Director for the IUCN GlobalMarine and Polar Programme for 20 years. At IUCN, his primary responsibility has been to develop the programs in four areas: global coastal issues, high seas, climate change/nature-based solutions and working with marine and coastal-based industries. Previous to IUCN, working for the World Bank for more than 13 years, he focused on coastal and marine management issues in several countries, including Argentina, China, Eritrea, Indonesia, Mexico, Mozambique, Seychelles and Uruguay. As a founding board member of the Sylvia Earle Alliance and Mission Blue, Carl Gustaf has been instrumental in crafting the DNA of the organization. He holds a Bachelor in Biology from Uppsala University, and an advanced degree in Philosophy and Natural Resources Management from Stockholm University.
Mission Blue has been working for a decade to realize Dr. Sylvia Earle’s TED wish to ignite public support for ocean protection. Over the last decade, our collective efforts to protect the ocean have yielded an increase from 1% to almost 10% today. With Carl Gustaf on the leadership team, Mission Blue will continue to build momentum toward our goal of 30% of the ocean protection by 2030 by advancing ocean awareness and by leading communities around the world into action through the Hope Spots initiative. A few of his responsibilities include oversight of Mission Blue’s Hope Spot Global program to accelerate impact and protection, and implementation of a cohesive strategy which links all Hope Spot programs: Expeditions, Communications, Engagement and Policy. Carl Gustaf brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and wisdom to Mission Blue, which will greatly increase the chances of achieving the target to protect 30% of the ocean by 2030.
